  Responsibility

 bamboo-picture-2.jpg

If you dissect the word (response-ability), you find it really means the ability to respond.  How we choose our responses is what we will continue to attract, create and become.  To think that life will be free of challenges is an illusion.  Challenges are the way we test how much we have or have not developed our ability to respond . Take heart.  Realize that in  every challenge there is a gift.  Judge not a challenge, rather see the challenge as an opportunity to test your level of ability to respond.  Think, feel and act in accordance with how you choose to respond. Ask yourself these questions:  What does this teach  me about myself?  What can I learn about myself and the world from this situation?  How can I use this situation to grow and become a better person? Maybe it will cause you to take an inventory of what is truly important in your life. Maybe you will connect deeper with your family. It could cause you to open your heart and realize the power of helping others. Maybe it will empower you for future responsibility. When you find the goodness and gifts in all of life’s situations, even the difficult, then your level of response-ability will grow and you will be open to more goodness and gifts.

Relax!

The opposite of fear is relaxation.  The ability to remain open and mindful under all circumstances no matter how uncomfortable is a sign of amazing courage.  When we are not able to maintain mindfulness, we lose track of what is actually going on around us.  We confuse what we think is happening with what is actually happening.  When attention is absorbed in fear, we are distracted from what is actually going on.  Like remaining in the still eye of a tornado, as opposed to being swept away by it.  Fearlessness requires full moment to moment attention and receptivity, two qualities rooted in relaxation.

Do This:  The next time you feel fear rising, stop what you are doing.  Draw your attention inward.  Where is the fear manifesting in your body?  Tense jaw,  rolling stomach, shallow breathing, where is it?  When you locate it just relax that part, take a few deep breaths.  Sometimes you can relax your body in order to relax your mind, instead of the other way around.
